Drug-Resistant Staph Germ's Toll Is Higher Than Thought
A dangerous germ that has been spreading around the country causes more life-threatening infections than public health authorities had thought and is killing more people in the United States each year than the AIDS virus, federal health officials reported yesterday.
The microbe, a strain of a once innocuous staph bacterium that has become invulnerable to first-line antibiotics, is responsible for more than 94,000 serious infections and nearly 19,000 deaths each year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention calculated.
"This is a significant public health problem. We should be very worried," said Scott K. Fridkin, a medical epidemiologist at the CDC.
Other researchers noted that the estimate includes only the most serious infections caused by the germ, known as methicillin-resistant S taphylococcus
aureus (MRSA).
MRSA, which is spread by casual contact, rapidly turns minor abscesses and other skin infections into serious health problems, including painful, disfiguring "necrotizing" abscesses that eat away tissue. The infections can often still be treated by lancing and draining sores and quickly administering other antibiotics, such as bactrim. But in some cases the microbe gets into the lungs, causing unusually serious pneumonia, or spreads into bone, vital organs and the bloodstream, triggering life-threatening complications. A VOICE FROM THE PAST SPEAKS THE TRUTH
I have enclose these 2 articles written by C.S. LEWIS over 40 years ago. WOW, if you read these articles very close, sounds like he is talking about the U.S. today. The first article talks about schools and if this doesn't sound like the government run schools of today, I will eat my hat. Wonder why our schools are in the shape they are in, READ THIS ARTICLE. MAYBE READ IN 10 OR 20 TIMES AND LET IT SINK IN............

In addition to his three now-documented "exaggerations" or "reconstructions" -- the student with no desk in her science class, the senior citizen's need to pick up cans to pay for her prescription drugs and the supposed trip with FEMA Director James Lee Witt to a Texas fire scene -- Vice President Al Gore's first presidential debate performance included another apparent faux pas.
"And when the conflict came up in Bosnia," said Gore, "I saw a genocide in the heart of Europe, with the most violent war on the continent of Europe since World War II. Look, that's where World War I started, in the Balkans. My uncle was a victim of poison gas there. Millions of Americans saw the results of that conflict."

The announcement, which is expected within weeks and could come as early as Monday at the annual meeting of his scientific institute in San Diego, California, will herald a giant leap forward in the development of designer genomes. It is certain to provoke heated debate about the ethics of creating new species and could unlock the door to new energy sources and techniques to combat global warming.
The new clones will have special mutated lungs that will not expel CO2 when the clone exhales. I made this up for a laugh, don't believe the lung part.

Chill out over global warming
This article was written on 12/26/06 and I was going through my notes today on GLOBAL WARMING ISSUES and I came across this article.
This was a great read on 12/26/06 and it is still a great read today.
Think about this article, much hasn't changed in the GW pseduo science of fear and misinformation, but what has changed is the GW GOVERNMENT MOON BATS are cranking out all kinds of tax bills that will eventually cripple the world economy if they keep on at their current pace of spend, spend, spend, but no real effects on cutting the CO2 EMISSIONS.
FOLKS, all of this will come to a point in the near future, but if we set back and say nothing, expect to get spent into oblivion.
Start by challenging global warming hysteria next time you're at a Lo Do cocktail party and see what happens.
Admittedly, I possess virtually no expertise in science. That puts me in exactly the same position as most dogmatic environmentalists who want to craft public policy around global warming fears.
The only inconvenient truth about global warming, contends Colorado State University's Bill Gray, is that a genuine debate has never actually taken place. Hundreds of scientists, many of them prominent in the field, agree.
Gray is perhaps the world's foremost hurricane expert. His Tropical Storm Forecast sets the standard. Yet, his criticism of the global warming "hoax" makes him an outcast.
Al Gore (not a scientist) has definitely been heard - and heard and heard. His documentary, "An Inconvenient Truth," is so important, in fact, that Gore crisscrosses the nation destroying the atmosphere just to tell us about it.
"Let's just say a crowd of baby boomers and yuppies have hijacked this thing," Gray says. "It's about politics. Very few people have experience with some real data.
I think that there is so much general lack of knowledge on this GW.
I've been at this over 50 years down in the trenches working, thinking and teaching."

Global Warming’s Trillion-Dollar Turkey

Last July, this column reported that the latest global warming bill — the Low Carbon Economy Act of 2007, introduced by Sens. Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M. and Arlen Specter, R-Pa. — would cost taxpayers more than $1 trillion in its first 10 years and untold trillions of dollars in subsequent decades. This week, the EPA sent its analysis of the bill’s impact on climate to Bingaman and Specter.
Now we can see what we’d get for our money, and we may as well just build a giant bonfire with the cash and enjoy toasting marshmallows over it. For reference purposes, the current level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is about 380 parts per million. The EPA estimates that if no action is taken to curb CO2 emissions, the atmospheric concentration of CO2 would be 718 ppm by 2095.
If the Bingaman-Specter bill were implemented, however, the EPA estimates that CO2 levels would be 695 ppm — a whopping reduction of 23 ppm.
The Bingaman-Specter bill, then, would cost taxpayers trillions of dollars and produce virtually nothing in terms of temperature outcome. But the pain of Bingaman-Specter doesn’t stop with trillions of taxpayer dollars. The heart of the Bingaman-Specter bill is a so-called cap-and-trade system in which CO2 emission limits (caps) would be decreed and certain businesses and other special interest group emitters (such as farmers and states) would be given permits to emit CO2.

The scientists observed less perennial ice cover in March 2007 than ever before, with the thick ice confined to the Arctic Ocean north of Canada. Consequently, the Arctic Ocean was dominated by thinner seasonal ice that melts faster. This ice is more easily compressed and responds more quickly to being pushed out of the Arctic by winds. Those thinner seasonal ice conditions facilitated the ice loss, leading to this year's record low amount of total Arctic sea ice. Nghiem said the rapid decline in winter perennial ice the past two years was caused by unusual winds.
"Unusual atmospheric conditions set up wind patterns that compressed the sea ice, loaded it into the Transpolar Drift Stream and then sped its flow out of the Arctic," he said. When that sea ice reached lower latitudes, it rapidly melted in the warmer waters. "The winds causing this trend in ice reduction were set up by an unusual pattern of atmospheric pressure that began at the beginning of this century," Nghiem said.
